I chose to base my model for
program planning from The Interactive Model of Program Planning (Caffarella
& Ratcliff Daffron, 2013, p. 369). I
have “chunked” some of the model’s elements together to suit my purposes for
planning the Adjunct Orientation Workshop for my institution. I will explain in detail the contents of my version
of the model.
Needs Assessment: In order to assess the need for an
orientation workshop, surveys and interviews will be conducted of newer
adjuncts. In addition to the surveys and
interviews observations will be collected from various areas of the college
where adjuncts reached out for assistance.
Support: In order to gain support for this workshop,
we must consider organizational context.
To that end, the process of decision-making (shared governance) will be
followed and the workshop will support the mission of the college. Stakeholders (managers, department
chairpersons, adjunct faculty, and senior administration) will be asked to
provide input and approval. Budget will
be determined as far as compensation, workforce, allocation, and budget
ownership.
Instruction: Goals and objectives and learning transfer will
be determined based on the needs assessment and input from stakeholders. Technology needs and the goals, objectives,
and learning transfer targets will determine facilitators.
Details: The audience for the workshop will be based
on the needs assessment (in this case, the adjunct population who have recently
been hired have been identified). The
marketing strategies will be determined by stakeholders, but will follow the
organization’s branding standards.
Workshops will be scheduled at peak times of hiring, with additional
workshops held based on need. Technology
and AV needs will be determined by the conversations around “instruction”. Decisions about building the budget will
happen at the “support” portion of the model, however, the budget will need to
be managed at this stage.
Evaluation: Following the workshop,
post-workshop assessments will be collected from participants. Year-end surveys will be sent to participants
to determine if the workshop should be amended.
Quantitative data will be collected at the end of the year by tracking
attendance. Qualitative data will be
collected from participant surveys/assessments.

Wendy,
ReplyDeleteYou did a nice job clustering and boiling down Caffarella and Daffron's Interactive Model for your purposes.
Now that you've had some time to work with your model around the new adjunct workshop - with OCC's expectations/hopes and the time constraints you have to work within - I wonder how you feel it served you as a compass and/or partial roadmap for your workshop development...Jane
